Jim Moss Jim Moss was born and raised in New York; actually he was born in Brooklyn and raised in Jamaica, Queens. After graduating from Jamaica High, where he played a little basketball and dabbled in student politics he entered CCNY, City College of New York, and in the required four years got his BBA IN Marketing and Psychology. Other celebrity graduates from CCNY were Bernard Baruch, Jonas Salk & Cohn Powell. Upon graduation and as the Korean War was winding down, Jim was drafted in the US Army. Most of his tour of duty was spent in Killeen, Texas at Fort Hood where he was the paymaster for the 510th Armored Infantry Battalion. Avery interesting side tour (TDY-temporary duty) was when he went to Camp Irwin near Barstow, California and participated in the first atomic bomb blast with a military unit immediately going into ground zero after the blast using the bomb as a tactical weapon. The next item of business was marrying his high school and college sweetheart, Carla Margaret, and the wedding took place on May 26, 1956. Then a job seemed to be the next order of business and Jim landed a job with THE WALL STREET JOURNAL in their advertising department. After seven months in the N.Y. office they transferred Jim to San Francisco where Carla and Jim spent some very happy times including the births of Steven and Suzanne. Then on to Los Angeles as the Associate Pacific Coast Manager and in 1972 was promoted to Pacific Coast Manager with responsibilities for the 13 Western States and 3 sales offices and 9 sales people. His outside advertising industry activities in Los Angeles includes the President of The Milline Club in 1975 and the President of the Ad Club of LA 1976. After 20 years with THE WALL STREET JOURNAL and Dow Jones & Co, Jim started his own newspaper/magazine representative business and conducted that for 18 years. Some of the publications represented were THE SPORTING NEWS, THE ROTARIAN, FIREHOUSE MAGAZINE and HEALTH to name a few. By this time Steven and Suzanne were pretty much on their own (whew) and Carla really was smitten with the Sierra Nevada area since they did own a condo in NorthStar, Truckee. In fact, each time they returned to LA after a Northstar vacation Carla had a tear in her eye heading down Route 395 towards LA. So it seemed logical to move to the Sierra Nevada area which was accomplished when THE UNION offered Jim a job in their ad department. With eleven years at THE UNION under Jim's belt it seemed the right time to call it a day. Well Mike Dobbins, publisher of THE WILDWOOD INDEPENDENT and THE PENN VALLEY COURIER, didn't feel Jim was washed up yet. So in October of 2007, Mike offered Jim an opportunity at his place and Jim immediately took him up on it. So now, Jim is Marketing Manager for the WILDWOOD INDEPENDENT and the PV COURIER and Carla got her wish ...getting Jim out of the house.
